The McCain/Palin team certainly has its detractors within the Republican Party. McCain, without Palin, had many more. Certainly it is no secret that Hugh Hewitt backed Mitt Romney in the primaries, but has been a tireless supporter of the McCain/Palin team since. He stated some years ago, that party unity was more important than differences in an election. He’s right! You can squabble over petty differences AFTER THE ELECTION, but it isn’t going to do a bit of good to divide the party before the election.
Some commentators like Peggy Noonan and a few Townhall columnists seem to feel they are “contributing” to their elitist environment through destructive personal commentaries that only server to provide fodder to our opponents. Others have offered constructive and helpful suggestions to John McCain and Sarah Palin that show up a few days later in their campaign speeches. There is a difference, and shame on the petty destructionists that do nothing to achieve the primary goal…to get a Republican in the White House.
If John McCain does not believe exactly as some other Republicans, he still stands for our core values of conservatism and life. Here is a man who does what he says. That is nearly unheard of in a politician. Here is a man who listens to his advisors and doesn’t assume he is omniscient on all things governmental. Here is a man God can use to make America better and safer because he never seems to lose his humility, forgiveness, or gratitude.
Get behind our candidate. He is fighting a tough battle against a foe that doesn’t play by the rules. He’s done this before, but many of you have not. Get behind John McCain and stop whining because he has made some choices you might not have made. We have too much to lose to be our own worst enemy. Follow Hugh’s example. Drop the differences until we win.
